Traces of an ancient Roman saltworks

Salina di Cervia

We take you on a walking tour from the Cervia Saltpan Visitor Centre to the Camillone Salt Pan, an ancient salt pan where salt is harvested by hand, using the tools and methods used by ancient salt miners.

During the walk, our guide explains and gives us information about the 2015 excavations that brought to light a Roman saltworks dating back to the 3rd century BC, how Roman salt works worked and the salt that the Romans produced and consumed.
